I think the picture says it all, really. What I have yet to hear, though, is what any one is going to do about it.

I think I’m just going to go back to Canada. Their dollar is superior.

Orion Nebula via NASA

April 22nd, 2008 | 1 Comment

On January 11, 2006, NASA released their new high-res images of the Orion Nebula to the public. The above image (available in a zoom-able format here) is the sharpest image of the nebula taken by the Hubble Telescope. Cool, yeah?

Well, now look at the image as a whole. Follow from the belt to the right and up a bit and… Hey, isn’t that a face? Holy crap, the gases of previously exploded stars have created what looks like a man looking at the Hubble Telescope as it snaps the image.

Ok, it’s not really new news to me. I just remembered to mention it since I was talking about Orion in the last blog post. Have I mentioned that I like astronomy?

An Inner Look…

April 22nd, 2008 | No Comments

I’ve been asked about Orion a couple of times. The general answer that I give people is “I figured that if I had to create a boyfriend, I might as well create for myself a Greek God in the process.” This is why he’s a StarMan.

I recently had a dear friend of mine call me on my generalized answer. He said, “I always assumed that he was just a representation of your soul mate that’s out there.”

Dammit, I’ve been found out.

Yes, I’ve always considered myself “sensitive” to the everyday unseen forces around us. I’ve had dreams that come true, daydreams of things that actually happened in the past (without previous inklings), I’ve seen apparitions of sorts, and people have heard my voice before I opened my mouth to say something from 1500 miles away. I can’t explain these things, I do not claim to be psychic, I just acknowledge that these things happen (and usually have a connection down the road). I am spiritual by nature.

I really did (still do) talk to the constellation Orion as a child. He seemed like a real person up in the sky. I had dreams of a lifetime companion that was always there (I still have dreams of him, in fact). I took the traits of dream boy and made them the face of my favourite constellation. That made him real to me. If Orion really is out there, I haven’t found him (yet). I hope that one day, when it’s time, I will. Until then, I still have my imaginary boyfriend… In my head… And always with me.

Spayed

April 18th, 2008 | No Comments

The comic I am currently working relates to this repeated occurrence while walking my dog:

“Hey! Are you interested in breeding your dog?”
“No.. She’s spayed”

“Hey! Is your dog spayed?”
“Yes.. Fuck off.”

“Hey, that’s a pretty husky! You interested in breeding her?”
“Look, asshat, stop asking! My dog is not just some pretty piece of ass to be your dog’s bitch! Do you treat human women like this, too? This is my rescue dog, she has a hurt leg, and even so, I wouldn’t want to bring her even close to anything that lives in your house. Try Craig’s List!”

I think I’ve found the perfect..

April 18th, 2008 | No Comments

purpose for this blog. I’ve never really been good at keeping things “Up-to-date”, but I’m exceptionally good at posting things that I find interesting, etc. Well… I do believe that this blog will now host not only the interesting things, but comic ideas. I keep losing my ideas because I never write them down… Dóh! (French Homer).

Like this one taken from a conversation with my friend, D:
Em²a: The universe works in wonderful ways ^_^
Em²a: Urg… I hate it when I get antsy and have lots of energy, but no where to burn it… ‘Cuz I’m stuck at WORK.
D: *Snicker* The universe just didn’t want to see him get beat, that’s all.
D: I sowwie.
Em²a: Not you’re fault, but thanks
Em²a: Well, it could be, but I can’t prove it.
Em²a: It was an expression of sympathy.
Em²a: your*
D: 😉
Em²a: I’m conjunction happy this week
D: LOL!!!
D: and nobody can prove it… that’s the unfortunate part.
D: I think that the world would be a much better place if everybody knew how the universe worked. Then nobody could commit atrocities, claiming that they were guessing.
D: …cuz if they did, the universe would smite them down… for being an idiot.
Em²a: lol
Em²a: yes…
D:

Idiot: “It is the Will of God that these people shall die.”
Me: “How do you know? How the FUCK do you have ANY idea about what God wants? Answer that.”
Idiot: “He spoke to me in a vision.”
Universe: “LIAR!”
Me: “Oh shit!

We discovered something amusing..

January 11th, 2008 | No Comments

Today, at work, we discovered something amusing. My manager had previously installed Netscape Navigator onto his work computer, and since we work on web publishing, he later installed Opera so we can see how webpages will look in the different browsers. Makes sense, right? Well, turns out Opera overwrote the navigator.exe file and has it redirect to opera.exe. That’s a low blow, but I sure find it hilarious!

Edit: You know what’s funnier? Navigator replaces the Opera, as well.

Also, AOL/Netscape has this to say:
“While internal groups within AOL have invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market share from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Recently, support for the Netscape browser has been limited to a handful of engineers tasked with creating a skinned version of Firefox with a few extensions.

AOL’s focus on transitioning to an ad-supported web business leaves little room for the size of investment needed to get the Netscape browser to a point many of its fans expect it to be. Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.”
